The novel "Speak" genre is drama because a 15 year old girl has to start her freshman year off as an outcast because all of her friends disowned her for getting a party shut down in the summer before her freshman year all because a senior attending the highschool she started attending raped her. Nobody knows why she called the cops, the cops don't know, her parents don't know. Melinda finally grew the courage to come out and tell her ex best friend Rachel because Melinda soon comes to find out "it" the boy who raped her who is really Andy Evans is now Rachel's current boyfriend. Melinda confronts Rachel telling her what Andy done to her and Rachel gives her no chance she shuts Melinda right up accusing her of lying. Melinda wasn't surprised and didn't care to explain herself to anyone else, she was just happy she got it off her chest to someone finally.
If I were ever in the position as Melinda in the novel "Speak" I would've not only called the cops, I would've told them what happened because no one should ever have to go through being raped, abused, and being violated. Someone who were to go through that would leave them with serious physical, emotional and mental problems. I don't think anyone should get away with with ruining someone's life by raping them, the person who commits a crime like that deserves the worst. I would've definitely told the police everything. I wouldn't care about all my friends disowning me and no longer associating with me and I wouldn't even try to explain what happened to me because it's none of their business and they most likely wouldn't believe me. Especially my ex- best friend that her current boyfriend raped me.

The most important character is Melinda, over the summer she and her friends went to a party. Melinda ended up calling the police, which made everyone at the party socially reject her. She started high school with the wrong attitude, clothes and a castaway. Soon after the first couple weeks of school, Melinda comes to realize that Andy Evans who she refers to as "it" is a senior at her school. Whenever Melinda sees "it" anywhere she immediately runs away. Whenever she comes in contact with him he antagonizes her. She's all torn up and even skips full days of school. Her parents and school becomes concerned and try helping her and finding out what's wrong but she refuses to tell them anything. Melinda soon comes to find out her ex best friend Rachel now dates "it"... She wants to let her know what really happened at that party and why she did what she did. She went to Rachel to talk to her about everything, when Melinda told her she called the cops because she was sexually assaulted and it was her current boyfriend Andy. Rachel flipped out accusing Melinda of lying. Melinda felt so much better she's gotten everything off her chest even if she's not believed. I feel Melinda's the most important character because she shows bravery, courage and responsibility from having to go through being raped, starting high school with nobody and then finally working up the nerve to tell Rachel and get it off her chest.
